Just plug in an easy number for "x" and solve. Then see if the second problem is really greater that the first

3 - 2x + 5 < -4x - 8
8 -2x < -4x -8
Add 4x to both sides
8 + 2x < -8
Subtract 8 from both sides
2x < -16
Divide both sides by 2
x < - 8
