Just plug in an easy number for "x" and solve. Then see if the second problem is really greater that the first

3 - 2x + 5 < -4x - 8
8 -2x < -4x -8

Add 4x to both sides

8 + 2x < -8

Subtract 8 from both sides

2x < -16

Divide both sides by 2

x < - 8
