12x=17x-10

we must locate x on only one side and the other numbers on the other side

first we will remove 17x from the right side by subtracting but if you do an operation you must do on both sides to preserve equality

so

\begin{gathered} 12x-17x=17x-17x-10 \\ (12-17)x=0x-10 \\ -5x=-10 \end{gathered}

now we must remove the coefficient -5 we can do it dividing each side by this same

\begin{gathered} (-5x)/(-5)=(-10)/(-5) \\ \\ x=2 \end{gathered}

so, the value of x is 2

we can check replacing x

undefined
