remember you can do anything as long as you do it to both sides
try to get 1x by itself

5x-0.1=4x
minus 4x from both sides
5x-4x-0.1=4x-4x
1x-0.1=0
add 0.1 to both sides
x+0.1-0.1=0+0.1
x+0=0.1
x=0.1

5x-0.1=4x
Subtract 5x from both sides so that the x variable is only on one side
-0.1=-x
Divide both sides by -1 to get rid of the negative on the side with the x variable
Final Answer: 0.1=x
