The correct answer is C) resented the destruction of the Southern economy.

The Civil War absolutely destroyed the Southern economy. Thanks to military campaigns by Union officers, such as Sherman's March to the Sea, thousands of acres of land were destroyed in the South during the Civil War. Union soldiers were burn the crops, destroy the machines used to make crops, etc. in order to force the Confederacy to surrender.

After the war was over, many white Southerners farms were ruined. Since many of them could not afford to buy new equipment, they resented the destruction caused during the Civil War. This is because it made it extremely difficult for them to make profits after the war was over.
