Marcus is buying 10 gift bags for his birthday party. He will choose items to put in the bags and then pay an additional charge of $0.75 for the actual bag. Marcus cannot spend more than $50. Write and solve an inequality to find the most Marcus can spend on the items for each bag.

Since they do not specify that the items are equal lets assume that a b c d e f g h i j represent the cost of the items in the 10 gift bags.
10 x 0.75=7.50
thus
(7.50-7.50+a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i+j)< or = 50 - 7.50
a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i+j < or = $42.50

Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

Let cost of items for 10 bags be represented by x

Cost of 1 bag=$ 0.75

Cost of 10 bags=$ (0.75×10)

= $ 7.5

Total cost of 10 bags with items in them=$(7.5+x)

Marcus cannot spend more than $50.

i.e. 7.5+x≤50

Subtracting both sides by 7.5

x≤42.5

Most Marcus can spend for items in 10 bags=$42.5

Most Marcus can spend for items in 1 bag=$(42.5/10)=$4.25

Hence, most Marcus can spend on the items for each bag is:

$4.25
