Answer: D. Poe claims that the story is the most essential element, while King claims that the writer is the most essential element.

Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King are two American authors. Poe is best known by his poetry and macabre short stories. He wrote during the 19th century, as part of the Romantic movement. Stephen King, while also renowned in the genre of horror and suspense, is currently still an author. Both authors have expressed their views on writing, however, they differ in the fact that Poe believes the story to be the most essential element, while King believes that the writer is the most important factor when writing.
