The length of a rectangle is 3 units shorter than one-third of the width, x.

Write an expression that represents the perimeter of the rectangle.

Perimeter is the sum all lengths of a shape. For a rectangle, the perimeter is calculated by adding the 2 lengths and 2 widths. It is expressed as:

P = 2l + 2w

From the data of the length and width above, we form an expression:

P = 2l + 2w
P = 2(w/3 - 3) + 2w
P = 2w/3 - 6 + 2w
P = 8w/3 - 6
