w = 4.8

Now to check:

2(3.6) + 2(4.8) = 16.8

7.2 + 9.60 = 16.8 ----- multiply in the parenthesis

16.8 = 16.8 ---------- add

The answer 4.8 is correct. (I also know 'cause I took the test)

If the rectangle has a length of 3.6 inches, and a perimeter of 16.8 inches, the width will be 4.8, which we can work out by taking away the amount we already know from the perimeter, which will of course be 3.6 x 2 (7.2) to get 9.6. This is the combined length of the remaining widths within the perimeter added together, so to find the width along, you simply need need to halve 9.6 to get 4.8.
