Sams addition is incorrect because 6,152 plus 379 doesn't add up to 9,942. To prove that this statement is correct solve 9,942-6152. If this equaled 379 than he would be correct. The correct answer is 6,152 + 379 = 6531

Answer: Hello there!

Here we have the sum 6152 + 379.

We know that Sam find the solution 6152 + 379 = 9942

Here is clearly a mistake, you can see that the addition that sam did is 6152 + 3790 = 9942, so he started added the wrong number.

Now let's compute our sum:

6152 + 379.

you can use a calculator, but let's try another metod:

lets "breack" the second number 379 = 300 + 70 + 9 and do the additions one by one:

6152 + (300 + 70 + 9) = (6152 + 300) + 70 + 9 = (6452 + 70) + 9

now, 50 + 70 = 120; so we have

(6452 + 70) + 9 = 6522 + 9 = 6531

so 6152 + 379 = 6531
