When Europeans began to colonize America, they transferred many familiar patterns and institutions to the colonies. This can be seen in various ways. For example, the institutions of government and the Church resembled those in Europe. In terms of the architecture, many towns were built around a central Church, often of Protestant denomination. The economic activities of these towns, as well as their hierarchical structures, also resembled those in England.
Native Americans reacted in various ways to the presence of Europeans among them. Some Native Americans developed friendly relationships with the colonizers. They engage in trading, intermarriage, and even lived close to each other. Some others, however, resentde what they saw as an invasion and wanted the Europeans to leave. Finally, some others migrated further inland in order to protect their culture and their safety.
