1. Identify the given and do necessary conversions:

• Moles of Sodium = 0.1 mol

• volume of sodium hydroxide NaOH= 100cm3 /1000 = 0.1dm^3

• Balanced equation : 2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)

2. Determine mole ratio fro the balanced equation:

2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g

2 : 2 :2 :1

0.1 mol 0.1mol

• We can see that 0.1 mol of Na react with 0.1 mol of water to form 0.1mol NaOH

3. Calculate the concentration of NaOH:

since we have moles n = 0.1 mol

and Volume (v) = 0.1dm^3

Concentration = moles /volume

=0.1mol/0.1dm^3

= 1 mol/dm^3

Therefore , concentration of NaOH = 1mol/dm^3
