A leader using a coaching method would have authority over all decisions but would listen to all suggestions made by teammates. Where as a leader using a democratic method would let all of the team members vote on decisions.

A leader who is using the coaching leadership style behaves like a coach, delegates challenging assignments and encourages people to try something new on their own. A leader who is using the democratic method on the other hand will let members of the group take a more participative role in the decision-making process. This is why this type of leadership is also known as shared leadership.

One difference between a leader using the coaching method and a leader using the democratic method is that the leader using the coaching method gives direct assignments, while the democratic leader hears also the proposals of the group members.
