You can solve this problem by making the unknown number a variable, let's say X.
X/3+6-7=4
Step 1: Add together all the whole numbers)
X/3-1=4
Step 2: Add 1 to both sides) X/3=5
Step 3: Multiple both sides by 3) X=15
