To show a direct relation, you must change the numbers to make the denominators the same. For example, 1/4 + 1/2 = 3/4, I got this by multiplying both the numerator and the denominator of 1/2 by 2, changing the overall number to 2/4. Then after the denominators are equal, you can not only tell that 2/4>1/4, but you are able to add the numbers as well (3/4).
