If you put it horizontally it wilt sink, but if you put it vertically the pressure will keep it above water

Metal needles sink into water because they have higher density than that of water.However , when you put it horizontally, the pressure exerted by the needle is weakwe than the surface tension, so
IT CAN FLOAT.
