Notice that the expression of the function in question is:

y = 1/4 x -1

so we need to find the pairs of (x, y) that satisfy this equation

We need therefore to check if the sets of values provided really satisfy it.

We start with the first set and try them in the equation:

Set A: Wenotice that when we use the (x, y) point that reads: (-1, 1 1/4)

this point does NOT satisfy the equation since when we replace x by "-1", in it, we get:

y = - 1/4 - 1 = -(1 1/4) which is exactly the opposite of 1 1/4 listed in that point. So we discard this first set.

Set B: This set renders all pairs of values correct (notice that the questionable first point when x = -1, in this case gives the correct answer for y which is: - 1 1/4.

Set C: we notice here that again the first point is not correct since the correct y value shouldbe - 1 1/4 as we saw before. This set is therefore discarded.

Set D: In this set, the point that is incorrect is the second one listed (0, -1/4) since when x =0, the equation renders for y:

y = 1/4 (0) - 1 = -1 Then we discard this set as well.

Conclusion: The ONLY set that represents the given function perfectly is the second set , named as B in the list of answers.
