How to do subtraction of fractions

you must make sure the demonimators (number on the bottom) are both the same.
to do this, find the LCM (lowest common multiple), eg 3 and 4 would be 12. if you don't know it, times the two denominators together and simplify later.
once they are the same, simply minus the top numbers and leave the denomiator the same.
simplify is necessary.
