Dylan went to the store to buy some coffee. The price per pound of the coffee is $5.75 per pound and he has a coupon for $3.25 off the final amount. With the coupon, how much would Dylan have to pay to buy 5 pounds of coffee? Also, write an expression for the cost to buy pp pounds of coffee, assuming at least one pound is purchased.

Answer:

$25.50

Explanation:

Find out how much it costs for 5 pounds of coffee, the coupon will be added into the solution later.

1 pound of coffee = $5.75

5 pounds of coffee = $5.75 x 5 = $28.75

So 5 pounds of coffee without the coupon costs $28.75.

Let's add the coupon into the working now.

5 pounds of coffee (with coupon) = $28.75 - $3.25 = $25.50

Answer:

$25.50

5.75x-3.25

Explanation:

one pound equals 5.75 so to get five pounds multiply it by 5

5.75×5=28.75

then subtract the 3.25 for the coupon

28.75-3.25=25.5

for equation 5.75 is your slope which you would multiply by your x to get the total cost before the coupon and 3.25 is your y intercept that you would subtract to get your total after using the coupon
