I think the best answer from the choices listed above is option B. The most appropriate unit to describe the rate at which a person reads would be words per minute, because the independent quantity is the minutes. Time cannot be manipulated so it must be the independent quantity.

B. The independent quantity is definitely not the words cause' of you think about it the number of words depends on the number of minutes.
