A proper noun is the actual name of a person,place,thing, or idea. So the names of people, countries, cities, buildings, streets, companies,etc, are proper nouns.

An example list:
Kate
New york
The University of Santa Barbara
Halloween

a capital letter ... is a proper noun.

Write down the names of your 10 best friends, the city and street where
you live, your 3 favorite pets, and your own name, and you'll have a fine
list of 16 proper nouns.
