Taylor's claim


-8-(-10)=2

Taylor's friend claim


-8-(-10)=18

The right solution


\begin{gathered} -8-(-10) \\ -*-\Rightarrow+ \\ -8+10 \\ 10-8=2 \end{gathered}

Hence, Taylor is correct and his friend is wrong
