x+5=13+3x
Okay. First subtract 5 from both sides.
x + 5 = 13 + 3x
-5 -5
___ __
0 8
x = 8 +3x
Subtract 3x on both sides. (The 3x's get cancelled on the right side.)
x -3x = 8
-2x=8
Divide -2 on each side.
-2x 8
___ = ___
-2 -2
x=-4
