Perimeter of a rectangle=2 (lenght)+2(width)
Data:
Length=3+2w
width=w
Perimeter=78

We can suggest this equation:
2(3+2w)+2(w)=78

6+4w+2w=78
6w=78-6
6w=72
w=72/6
w=12

Now, we compute the length.
lenght=3+2w=3+2(12)=3+24=27.

Answer: teh equation to find the width and lenght is :
2(3+2w)+2(w)=78

The width will be 12 cm and the lenght will be 27 cm.

since perimeter is the total of the length plus length plus width plus width:

L+L+W+W= 78 cm (given in the problem) as the total perimeter; and remember the length (we are told in the problem) is equal to 2 times width. so:

3 +2w+3+2w=78

6 +4w=78

6+4w-6=78-6

4w=72

w=18
