3x - 7 = 5x + 19
|Equation|

-7=5x+19-3x
|Subtract \ 3x \ from \ both \ sides|

-7=2x+19

-7-19=2x

3x-7=5x+19
Add 7 to both sides.
3x=5x+26
Subtract 5x on both sides.
-2x=26
Divide by -2 on both sides.
x=-13

To check the answer you substitute x=-13 back into the equation.
3x-7=5x+19
3(-13)-7=5(-13)+19
-39-7=-65+19
-46=-46
