The \ largest \ number \ that \ divides \ evenly \ into
\ y(x^2+2) \ and \ 3(x^2+2) \ is \ 1.


Highest \ degree \ of \ y is none \ because, y \ is \ not \ in \ every \ term


Highest \ degree \ of \ x^2+2 \ is \ x^2+2


Factor \ out \ the \ GCF


(x^2+2) (y(x^2+2))/(x^2+2) + (3(x^2+2))/(x^2+2)


Simplify \ each \ term \ in \ parentheses


(x^2+2)(y+3)
