Solution

A polynomial is a mathematical expression that consists of a variable or a couple of variables with whole-number degrees (or exponents) expressed as a product with real number coefficients. Examples of polynomials are:

\begin{gathered} xy+5y+x^2+\sqrt[]{7}y \\ x^2+5x+4 \\ y+x(x+y) \end{gathered}

Examples of non-polynomials are:

\begin{gathered} x^{\sqrt[]{5}} \\ (x)/(y)+8x \end{gathered}
