9 + 4 (2x - 1) + 8
Expand the bracket

=> 9 + (4 * 2x) + (4 * -1) + 8
simplify the bracket

9 + 8x - 4 + 8
make the expression equal to 0 and solve

9 + 8x - 4 + 8 = 0
9 - 4 + 8 + 8x = 0
13 + 8x = 0

8x = -13

x =
(- 13)/(8)

The distributive property: a(b - c) = ab - ac

9 + 4(2x - 1) + 8 = 9 + 4·2x - 4·1 + 8 = 9 + 8x - 4 + 8 = 8x +13
