The quadartic equation cannot be factored as the product of two expressions by splitting the middle term. So roots of the quadratic equation is obtained by using the quadratic formula.

Determine the roots of the quadratic equation.

\begin{gathered} x=\frac{-5\pm\sqrt[]{(5)^2-4\cdot4\cdot(-2)}}{2\cdot4} \\ =\frac{-5\pm\sqrt[]{25+32}}{8} \\ =\frac{-5\pm\sqrt[]{57}}{8} \\ =(-5\pm7.549)/(8) \\ =0.3187,-1.5687 \end{gathered}

So roots of the quadratic equation is 0.3187 and -1.5687
