Write the log equation as an exponential equation. You do not need to solve for x. log(x-1) (x^2 + 5x – 17) = x - 1

\begin{gathered} \log _((x-1))(x^2+5x-17)=x-1 \\ x^2+5x-17=(x-1)^(x-1) \\ \end{gathered}

Note you just need to cross the base to the right side to the exponential of x-1.
