2 5/8 ÷ 3
we change the mixed fraction into an improper fraction
21/8 ÷ 3
we now have
21/8 × 1/3
7/8
therefore, each friend will get 7/8

2 5/8 divided by 3

(2*8)+5/8 divided by 3

16+5/8 divided by 3

(3*7/2^3)(1/3)

3*7/2^3*3

7/2^3

7/8

each friend would get 7/8
