Basing on the law of indices;

a^(m) + a^(n)=
a^(m+n)
so,

5^{ (2)/(5) } * 5^{ (2)/(5) } = 5^{ (2)/(5)+ (2)/(5) } = 5^{ (4)/(5) } square inches
