In a survey, 80 people said they live in Houston. If 250 were surveyed, what percent of the people said they live in Houston?

Answer:

The percent of the people said that they live in Houston is 32%.

Explanation:

Think of 250 as a whole, or 100%.

The way I do it is to put it in fraction form, then divide the numerator by the denominator.

In this case...

NUMERATOR = number of people in Houston

--------------------

DENOMINATOR = total amount of people surveyed

80/250, then you divide 80 by 250, which will give you a decimal number of 0.32.

0.32 is 32% in decimal format, since 1 would be 100%.
