A nitride ion has 7 protons, 8 neutrons, and 10 electrons. What is the overall charge on this ion?

Protons have a charge of (1+) meaning they are positively charged.

Electrons are negatively charged, they have a charge of (1-).

While, neutrons don't have any charge at all.

So the answer is:

7 - 10 = -3

The Nitride Ion has a charge of -3
