Solution

- 89 gallons contains 40 gallons twice such that:

89=40+40+9

- This means that we can find at least 200% of 40 gallons in 89 gallons. This gives us what to expect.

- To get the percentage we are looking for, we should use the formula:

\frac{\text{new}}{\text{old}}*100\text{ \%}

New, in this case, is 89 gallons, Old is 40 gallons.

- Thus, we can calculate the percentage as follows:

\begin{gathered} (89)/(40)*100 \\ =2.225*100 \\ =222.5\text{ \%} \end{gathered}

Thus, the answer is 222.5%
