Percent in mass is the amount of a component per mass of the mixture. From the given components, SiO2 represents the sand. Therefore, the percentage of sand in the mixture is:
Percent sand = 1.20 g / (1.20 g + 1.50 g + 0.80 g) x 100%=
34.29% sand
