So I think it says,


8 * (5)/(12) =

and then,


+31 * (1)/(6) =

So- I'm guessing the question overall would look like the following:


(8 * (5)/(12)) + 31 * (1)/(6) =

The parenthesis is simple enough. 5×8 = 40


(40)/(12) + 31 * (1)/(6) =

And the second half is even simpler since 31×1 = 31:


(40)/(12) + (31)/(6) =

Okay and now we can shorten the left fraction, which means that we cut it in half.


(20)/(6) + (31)/(6) =

Almost done, now we just add them together.


= (51)/(6)

There we have it. And if needed you can also write it like:


8 * (3)/(6)

(which would be:)
