The missions of Spanish and Portuguese explorers during the 1400s were similar in many aspects. For example, these missions were usually placed in strategic locations that gave access to natural resources. Moreover, missions usually were made up of single men, with few women and children. Finally, missions usually included a priest, as it was important for them to convert the Native Americans to Christianity.
