I believe they can be categorized as simple sugars and or monosaccharides.

The sugars such as glucose, fructose, and ribose examples of monosaccharides. This type of saccharide comes in many different forms ranging from three to six carbon atoms. Other examples are triose, tetrose, pentose and hexose sugars.
