What challenges will industrial cities face as the economy becomes more dependent on high-technology industries?

Many of our cities, such like in northern half of New England have been having unemployment rates below the national average. Technology says more robots leading to less jobs for humans. Furthermore, many cities didn't experience the extremes of boom and bust in residential real estate that plagued some cities elsewhere in the country.
