a.) First we need to write an equation that represents the situation.

We know that for every game it costs $3 and for every shoe rental it costs $2.

However, you don't need to buy new shoes for every game, therefore the $2 become a one-time fee. Games, though, you need to pay $3 each time, so it becomes a changing, independent variable x. Knowing this, you can form an equation below with g(x) representing total cost and x representing the number of games played.

g(x) = 3x + 2

b.) Now that you know the equation, plug numbers in to find the cost of 8 games. Since the variable 'x' represents the number of games and you need to find the total cost, plug in the number 8 for x as shown below:

total cost = 3( 8 games ) + 2

total cost = $24 + $2

total cost = $26
