In the lab, Eric has two solutions that contain alcohol and is mixing them with each other. He uses 3 times as much Solution A as Solution B. Solution A is 20% alcohol and Solution B is 14% alcohol. How many milliliters of Solution B does he use, if the resulting mixture has 518 milliliters of pure alcohol?

Given that:

Let :

Millimeter of solution A = a

Millimeter of solution B = b

% alcohol, solution A =. 20% = 0.2

% alcohol solution B, = 14% = 0.14

Resulting millimeter of. Alcohol = 518

a = 3b - - - (1)

0.2a + 0.14b = 518 - - - - (2)

Put a = 3b in (2)

0.2(3b) + 0.14b = 518

0.6b + 0.14b = 518

0.74b = 518

b = 518 / 0.74

b = 700

a = 3b

a = 3(700)

a = 2100
