Jodi is cutting out pieces of paper that measure 8 1/2 inches by 11 from a large sheet that has an area of 1,000 square inches. What is the area of each pieces that jodi is cutting out as a decimal.

93.5 square inches.
The 1000 doesn't matter. Just multiply 8.5 and 11

we know that

Jodi is cutting out pieces of paper that measure
8(1)/(2) inches by
11 inches

The area of each piece that jodi is cutting out is equal to the area of a rectangle

so

To calculate the area

Multiply
8(1)/(2) by
11


8(1)/(2) =8.5


8.5*11=93.5 inches²

therefore

the answer is


93.5inches^(2)
