If a food product contains fatty acids and glycerol molecules but no triglycerides could it be advertised as fat free

No it would not be considered fat-free. Although glycerol and fatty acids are not necessarily fat, when they react with each other, they create a triglyceride.

3 fatty acids + glycerol = triglyceride
this means that the product is not fat-free
