The phrase renaissance man/woman has two meanings: First, it refers to a person who lived in the Renaissance period (the transition period between medieval and modern times), second, and the way it is most commonly used, it refers to someone who is highly knowledgeable, educated and that is talented or skilled in many different fields of study such as arts, poetry, engineering, mathematics, and science. One example of a renaissance man is Isaac Newton: he was a theologian, natural philosopher, alchemist, physicist, mathematicians, and an astronomer.
