The compound cisplatin, Pt(NH3)2Cl2, has been studied as an antitumor agent. Cisplatin is synthesized as follows:K2PtCl4 1aq2 1 2NH3 1aq2 S Pt 1NH32 2Cl2 1s2 1 2KCl 1aq2What mass of cisplatin can be produced from 100. g of K2PtCl4 and sufficient NH3?

Use the molecular weight of K2PtCl4 to conver the given mass (100g) to moles (MW=415.09g/mol):

100g\cdot(1mol)/(415.09g)=0.24molK_2PtCl_4

Use the ratio of the coefficients of K2PtCl4 to cisplatinum to find the number of moles of cis platinum produced:

0.24molK_2PtCl_4\cdot(1molPt(NH_3)_2Cl_2)/(1molK_2PtCl_4)=0.24molPt(NH_3)_2Cl_2

Use the molecular weight of cis platinum to find the mass of cis platinum produced (MW=301.1g/mol):

0.24molPt(NH_3)_2Cl_2\cdot(301.1g)/(molPt(NH_3)_2Cl_2)=72.264g

The answer is 72.264g.
