it would be a straightedge because compass is used for measuring circles and to draw arc while straight edge or simply a ruler is used for measuring straight lines

Answer: straigthedge.

Step-by-step explanation:

1) The straightedge is a geometric instrument with straight edge used to draw lines. When the straightedge has equally spaced marks or divisions, like mm, cm, inches, it is a ruler and can be used to meaure the lengths of straight figures, like segments.

2) On the other hand, a compass is a geometric tool or instrument used to draw circles or arcs; it does not have lenth's marks or divisions to measure straight figures.
