The brightness of a star is called its Absolute magnitude (M). The equation M = a + 5 - 5 log d is used to find the Absolute magnitude of a star. a represents the apparent magnitude and d is the distance, measured in a unit called parsecs, from earth.

The Absolute magnitude of a star is 0.45 and the apparent magnitude is 0.009, how far is the star from earth?

Hello,

d=10^((5+0.009-0.45)/5) parsec
≈8,162064...parsec
≈1683546.565738...ua
≈2.5185498*10^17 m
≈26,62109273... light-years.
