11 . 12 people fit comfortably in a 5 feet by 5 feet area. Use this value to estimate the size of a crowd that is 25feet deep on both sides of the street along a 3-mile section of a parade route. (Hint: 1 mile - 5.280 ft)

We can solve this problem using a rule of three.

The first information we have is that 12 people would fit in a 5x5 area, that is, an area with 25 square feet.

Now, we need to find how many people would fit in a area with 50 feet (25 feet in each side of the street) by 3 miles.

3 miles is equivalent to 3*5280 = 15,840 feet.

So the total area is 50 * 15840 = 792,000 square feet.

Then we have that:

\begin{gathered} 12\text{ }people\to25ft^2 \\ x\text{ }people\to792000ft2 \\ \\ x\cdot25=792000\cdot12 \\ x=(792000\cdot12)/(25)=380160 \end{gathered}

So the size of the crowd is 380,160 people.
