Problem 1:. The melting points of canola oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, and peanut oil are 10°C, –11°C, –17°C, and –2°C. Based on this information, how might you separate one type of oil from the rest in a mixture of all four?. . a. cooling in a freezer. . b. liquid chromatography. . c. simple distillation. . d. paper chromatography

The Answer is C i.e simple distillation.
REASON = When we are dealing with the mixtures, we would separate each other by boiling of the each mixture.All these mixtures will boil at different temperatures and they will separate one by one.
In this way , they would separate one by one. and this process is known as simple distillation.

Answer:

One type of Oil (canola oil) can be separated from the mixture by Cooling in a Freezer.

Step-by-step explanation:

The data given is as;

Oil Melting Point / Freezing Point

Canola Oil 10 °C

Corn Oil -11 °C

Sunflower Oil -17 °C

Peanut Oil -2 °C

When the mixture of these oils is cooled to 5 °C only the Canola oil will solidify because it has a melting point of 10 °C and exists in solid state below 10 °C (Freezing Point). Therefore, it can easily be separated from remaining mixture which is present in liquid state.

While, simple distillation is not possible because Oils have Smoke point instead of boiling point as at that high temperature oils tend to produce smoke and burns hence, it is not the efficient method.
