One of the characteristic of Coal is it contain Carbon. And the substance that contain Carbon is considered as organic substance.

Coal is not a mineral. It is a sedimentary rock or, in the case of butiminous coal, a metamorphic rock. The answerers above are correct. Organic is probably the answer that is sought. Coal is more like a random arrangement of microcrystals of large organic molecules. The fact that it has a variable composition and structure also causes it to violate the standard definition of mineral.minerals are inorganic
